The family fled Tajik village, in Bamyan, during heavy fighting in 2019, in which their former home was destroyed. They later moved back to his village but, unable to pay rent on Zamir's earnings as a day labourer, the family moved into a nearby cave. Their new two-roomed home, with a bathroom, will be fitted with solar panels and a traditional bukhari heater. “We will have a better life inside this new home", he said.")
Afghanistan Situation
Afghanistan has suffered more than 40 years of conflict and natural disasters. Today, Afghans make up one of the largest refugee populations worldwide.
UNHCR continues to deliver on its scaled-up response, focusing on the provision of cash assistance, core relief items and shelter. UNHCR also supports host governments and communities in their efforts to include Afghans in national services such as health and education.
Myanmar Situation
Violence against civilians and the intensified armed conflict following the events of February 2021 caused tens of thousands of refugees to flee to neighbouring countries and have displaced 3.5 million people within Myanmar.
UNHCR has called for comprehensive and regional approaches to durable solutions for some to 1.5 million refugees from Myanmar, such as voluntary repatriation and resettlement. We focus on the responsive and timely delivery of humanitarian assistance, strengthening community-based protection and resilience
