Empoderando Refugiadas (English version)

Empoderando Refugiadas (English version)

A UN iThe project Empowering Refugee Women is a UN inter-agency initiative, involving UNHCR, the Global Compact Network in Brazil, and UN Women. It is focused on the employability of women who are in refugee situations in Brazil.
It was created in 2016 and encourages refugee women to access the Brazilian labor market through training, private sector awareness, and relocation to several Brazilian cities.
The project offers a course to prepare women refugees for the Brazilian labor market, facilitating the cultural and labor adaptation in Brazil, promoting the formal hiring of refugees, and financial education and economic empowerment as a strategy to combat violence against women.

Since its creation, over seven years, more than 400 women have participated in the initiative, the result of an investment in training, employability, and relocation of families. The project – with editions held in São Paulo (SP), Curitiba (PR) and Boa Vista (RR) – also focuses on valuing diversity and inclusion, and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting their achievement with the private sector.

Among the pillars of the project are the appreciation of diversity and inclusion. Throughout its history, the Empowering Refugee Women project has formed women with disabilities, chronic diseases, and special needs. The participants also represent LGBTQI+ and 50+ diversity groups.

Find some of the results achieved by the Empowering Refugees Women project since 2016:
